Vintage Glass Floats

Description

Glass floats are no longer used by fishermen but many of them are still floating in the world’s oceans, primarily the Pacific. Most of the glass floats remaining in the ocean are stuck in a circular pattern of ocean currents. However storms or certain tidal conditions will break some floats from this circular pattern and carry them ashore, most often to end up on the beaches of Alaska, Washington or Oregon in the United States, Taiwan or Canada. It is estimated that the floats that wash ashore have been afloat for 10 years! They are a popular collector’s item for beachcombers and decorators.

These are authentic glass floats that have been recovered in Alaska. They are available with or without netting, and with clear or frosted glass. The glass does contain inclusions, bubbles and impurities, giving unique characteristics to each float. They are in great condition with normal vintage wear. Perfect for decorating a nautical themed room or home, or simply to use as a beachy ornament.
