These trilobites are known as Gerastos (or Proetus) granulosus. They are preserved in the matrix with stunning detail.



Trilobites were a highly diverse and successful group of bottom dwelling marine arthropods. They lived during the Paleozoic Era and roamed the oceans for 270 million years. So far, over 20,000 species of trilobites have been identified, and they play a valuable role to geologists as they help determine the age of the rocks in which they are discovered.

Gerastos granulosus (also called Proetus) were a small trilobite that lived during the Devonian Period. One of it’s distinctive characteristics are it’s bulbous eyes. These specimens are beautifully preserved with incredible detail- they make a wonderful addition to any collection!
