The ulu knife is quite a versatile utensil for kitchen, shop or outdoor use. Alaska Natives have utilized the ulu since at least 1900 B.C. Originally the blades were made of jade, slate or bone.
Made by Bob Merry of Anchorage, Alaska, this Ulu knife has the ever popular Walrus Oosik (Penis Bone) handle, a 5.5″ 440 Stainless Steel blade. This ulu is truly unique & comes with a hand carved fossilized Walrus Jaw Bone stand. That way it can be proudly displayed!
Oosik (pronounced “oooh sick”) is a term used in Native Alaska cultures to describe the baculum of walruses, seals, sea lions, and polar bears. The baculum is a bone found in the penis of most mammals. It is absent in humans.
**No two handcrafted ulus are exactly the same.
